India is a very vast & diverse country with dense connectivity of Indian Railway (IR) among its 29 states. This connectivity consists of approximately 8000 railway stations, spread across all the cities of the country. To maintain & organize this huge data of stations Indian Railway has developed a system of coding them into alphabets. In this they probably shorten. Sometimes when stations have similar sounding name, even at that time these codes can be used to identify the one. For example, Chennai Park which has code MPK and Chennai Egmore has code MS can be identified distinctively with the help of its codes. This system eases the process both for them & for travelers while booking tickets.
Type the station code or station name and click on "Go". A detail about station name, code, state and zone will come along with Google map to know about exact location you are trying to find.
